To commemorate the centenary of WW1, a new show by the Variety Collective was especially commissioned called “Keep The Home Fires Burning”, remembering the music of the Great War and the bravery of the men and women who gave their lives.
“Act One: The curtain rises on the very first Royal Command Performance before King George & Queen Mary, held at the Palace Theatre, London, just months before war is declared.” The cast recreated many of the Music Hall stars of the day and their garish costumes and comic personas serve as stark contrast to the second half of the show, transferred to the Western Front where the soldiers kept up morale by singing, such songs as Pack Up Your Troubles and It’s A Long Way To Tipperary.
This emotive show played to packed houses in many venues, such as the Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Hospital Chelsea, and toured all over the UK, playing to crowds young and old.
